Continental Trail? 22 miles Donahue Park to Chester

A Greenway | Bike Trail for Cornwall is an audacious plan by anyone's standards.  Consider on top of that a plan to connect to the Heritage Trail 22 miles away in Chester!  Yet it can be done!  Residents of the Town of Blooming Grove have long considered the possiblity.  There is a an uninterupted rail course from Rt. 32 [near Orrs Mill Rd intersection] in Cornwall west to Chester.  Additionally there is a route from the Hudson River waterfront almost reaching Rt. 32.  The trick will be getting across Rt. 32 as the overpass was removed in the 1950's.  More on that later.

In order to begin the process, we need a break-though - at least in concept.   NYMA may provide the initial breakthrough by allowing an easement along Faculty Rd., around their soccer fields to the tunnel under 9W and then across their "West of 9W" property ... that would be a big win!  Inquiries are being made.

Much research has been done on the ownership of the rail corridors and a committee of interested persons is being formed.  If you are interested in joining this effort, please contact Michael Summerfield at This email address is being protected from spambots.
